Somatic Movement Workshop with Francesca Melluzzi and Claudine Martin

Join us for this introduction to the core principles of Somatic Movement Education based on the work of the late Thomas Hanna.
Find out how stress affects your body and how the body adapts in response. Learn a series of simple movements to regain voluntary control of habitually tight muscles using the method of pandiculation – a highly effective yet simple method of neuromuscular movement education and pain relief.
This four-hour workshop is a introduction to the core principles of Hanna Somatics: the science, philosophy, techniques, and Somatic Exercises. It is open to everyone whether you are new to Hanna Somatics or seeking to deepen your understanding of Somatic Exercises and principles for your own personal development. It is also appropriate for those in the movement or bodywork field: yoga teachers, pilates teachers, fitness trainers, physio therapists, massage therapists, or anyone intrested in bringing Somatic principles into their life! The only requirement for joining us is a willingness to put aside what you know and be open to new possibilities of movement potential.
In this introductory workshop you will learn:
Basic somatic philosophy and basic neurophysiology as it applies to Hanna Somatics.
The difference between Hanna Somatic Movement Education and other methods of pain-relief and movement education.
What “Sensory Motor Amnesia” is, how it occurs in the brain and central nervous system, and why it is the cause of most chronic muscular pain and movement limitation.
How all humans respond reflexively to stress within three full body reflexes (Green Light, Red Light, and Trauma Reflex).
A body mapping exercise to help you recognise the three somatic reflex patterns in yourself (and others).
The difference between stretching and “pandiculation,” the technique used to restore voluntary sensory and motor control of muscles.
A basic routine of Somatic Exercises that, when done regularly, will result in renewed muscle control and awareness.
