My Story

I first came to yoga in 1993 as, what was then, a weekly interlude from an over busy work and family life. In the chaos of juggling 4 young children, a divorce, career change and house move, I soon recognised that my yoga was the one stabilising factor in my life and that it was giving me all sorts of benefits in terms of general health and wellbeing.
By 2000 yoga had become more than just a weekly class and I was attending as many classes, workshops and retreats as I could fit into my time. During this time I was fortunate to meet my tutors Gary Carter and Peter Blackaby who became and have continue to be my main source of teaching inspiration and personal development.
I qualified with the British Wheel of Yoga 500 hours diploma in 2004, and soon after that teaching became my full time occupation.
I teach 7 general classes at various venues in Windsor, Eton Wick, Maidenhead and Bracknell, host workshops with guest tutors at these venues, teach corporate classes, and private one to ones.
I founded my Yoga Studio, Yoga for Harmony in 2006, which at it’s peak hosted in excess of 20 weekly classes with various tutors, guest tutor workshops, a 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training Course, and an Holistic Therapy Room.
It was born out of a desire to have a facility that was dedicated and sympathetic to the practise of yoga. I was able to invite some respected colleagues to take some classes and I also invited some of my own ‘favourite’ tutors to share their knowledge with my clients and students and until its closure in December of 2025 Yoga for Harmony was perhaps the most established and respected yoga studio in Berkshire.

What type/style of yoga do I teach?

With early origins in Iyengar Yoga, I have experienced a wide range of teachers and yoga ‘styles’ and continue to be interested in furthering my own knowledge and experience so that I can pass on those experiences to my students.
My yoga today has become an evolution of nearly 30 years of practice and study, blending styles and approaches into what I can only really say is my own interpretation of many things, but perhaps the main influences could be said to be 'Scaravelli Inspired' and 'Functional Movement Based' yoga within a basis of 'Traditional Hatha' Yoga.
My hope is to help re-establish and maintain balance into my student’s mind, body and lifestyle.
My interest is in working with traditional postures, but with the view to ‘showing’ the body a useful pattern of movement, one which is natural to its developmental history to bring the body within the range of ‘normal’ for that individual, providing a good base for wellbeing, comfort, ease of movement and reduced anxiety levels

It is not about how 'good' we become at ‘performing’ a posture

I encourage my students to move away from ‘external’ evaluation of the postures and moves towards an ‘internal’ sense of the postures. Moving away from the much used approach of 'systemised' yoga to a more experiential approach; moving toward being comfortable in our physical and mental selves and experiencing how yoga can help us to achieve this potential.
I aim for students to have the opportunity and the time to look at aspects of their practise in depth and to develop an approach of self-enquiry and self-knowledge; to be comfortable in our physical and mental selves and learning how yoga can help us to achieve this potential.
Whilst including the traditional Hatha Yoga postures and pranayamas I like to encourage fun, freedom and interpretations of those practices, and above all to enjoy yoga.

Who do I teach?

The classes are adaptable and encompass students of all levels of experience and ability. I believe that with an ‘attentive’ approach to the movements, postures, breath, the whole body and mind can be brought to a state of balance regardless of age or ability.
However, perhaps my approach is more attractive to those wanting to slow down a little and be on the path to a state of wellbeing that can be maintained all through life regardless of what it throws at us.
I share my yoga with people from all walks of life who perhaps find busy lives are taking their toll, who might be living overly stressed lives, who might be recovering from injuries or ill health, or who just would like to take some 'time out' for themselves in the week.
Everyone is welcome to come along and give it a go!!

How might yoga benefit you?

When I was training to be a tutor my mentor at the time told me "people come to yoga in order to 'change' something" and that phase has remained with me. Yoga is not a solution to all things in life, but it is a tool for change and for improvement.
Yoga can help with the following:
better sense of wellbeing and health
more mobility and flexibility
improved strength
less stress and anxiety
improved immune system responses
improved mental health
often better atheletic achievments
bone health
improved sleep patterns
improved cardiovascular functions
improved balance
reduction of inflammation

Private Tuition

Private 1:2:1 sessions are aimed at focussing on individual needs beyond that which can be achieved in a group class setting. These sessions are particularly suitable for people recovering from, or living with an injury or illness or for those who would like to further develop their practise.
My approach is to understand and support individual needs through applying the yoga techniques of asana (postures and movement), breathing and relaxation to help alleviate the impact of illness or injury and to help the body to move in a more balanced and effortless way.
A ‘one to one’ class provides an opportunity for clients to ask questions and explore their personal yoga, develop self-awareness and a ‘sense of feeling’, leading to a better understanding and discrimination of useful and non-useful movement habits.
One-to-one yoga classes are suitable for those new to yoga as well as more experienced students.
Classes can be at my home studio in Bracknell or at your home within a mile radius of Bracknell.
Cost are from £55 for an hour, payable prior to the class.
