I am a complete beginner – what classes are suitable for me?
I welcome beginners at all my weekly classes. My style of Scaravelli inspired Hatha Yoga is adaptable to beginners as well as those with many years of experience. The approach is a gradual build up to a main posture or movement so you can do just a little, the preliminary aspects, or you can work through further and have a more in depth and possibly ‘stronger’ experience.
If you are a beginner or you have an injury/medical condition or are returning to yoga after a break, let me know and I will be able to give you extra guidance where necessary.
What should I wear?
I always suggest that attendees wear loose and comfortable clothing with layers that are easily removed or added to allow for changes in body temperature during class. Please be aware the venues can be cold during the Winter months, so perhaps wear a thin thermal layer if its very cold and/or bring a blanket to put down to create 'insulation' from the floor.
I advise students to practise with bare feet, minimal or no jewellery and long hair might be better tied back.
Should I eat before I come to a class?
It is generally recommended that students practise on an empty stomach, but I suggest that you have a snack or light meal one to two hours before class so that you are not hungry or feeling faint during practise
I am under 18, can I attend a class?
I am sorry but I do not accept students under 18. On occasion if a parent already attends, they can bring a family member but who is no younger than 16.
What should I expect to experience at the class?
Most traditional Hatha Yoga classes follow a similar format. My style is Scaravelli inspired and so is generally slower and takes into account the anatomy of the body and the natural and functional movements of the body rather than focussing on the shape of the traditional postures.
A typical class is usually structured to start with a short relaxation or preparation period perhaps with breath awareness practices. Then some gently limbering/warming up exercises followed by Asana/posture work and guided relaxation/short meditation to finish. I often have a theme or a specific focus to work around.
Classes are always modified and adapted to suit the variety of abilities and experience of the class, and students are always encouraged to work within their own range of ability.
What if I have any medical conditions, injuries or I am pregnant?
If you are suffering from any medical conditions or taking medication, then please consult your doctor prior to coming to classes for the first time, or contact me to discuss your concerns.
Let me know if there is something you think I should know or that might affect your practise.
I do not usually take clients who are pregnant unless you have been practising with me prior to becoming pregnant. I recommend you attend a specialist class and I can suggest a colleague.
What do I need to bring?
As classes take place in various halls or at Norden Farm and with limited storage on site, it would be advisable to bring your own mat and a light blanket or rug, although I will be able to offer a limited amount for some and to new attendees for the first few weeks.
My classes are not based around the use of equipment such as blocks or belts, but you might want to bring those if you know you may want them. I will be able to offer a limited supply.
How much does a class cost and do I need to book?
The classes at Norden Farm need to be pre-booked with Norden Farm directly. Costs are set termly and are shown on the Norden Farm website. There are termly/block prices and single session prices. To be sure to get up to date costs it is best to check on the website, https://norden.farm/ but @ Jan 2026 it is £14 per class
If you are attending any of my other classes for the first time it is best to prebook using my on-line booking system so that I know to expect you. This can be found by clicking on the booking link on the classes page.
Once I have met you in person, then there are several options for payment on the day or ahead of the class in single sessions or block payments.
To be sure to get up to date costs it is best to check on the timetable page, but @ Jan 2026 charges are £14 per class, £125 for 10 paid in advance.
